Worship

Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ members today have been truly blessed by God and those who came before us. We worship in a beautiful sanctuary that was built by some of our members’ ancestors. There are many beautiful stained glass windows. There is a large one of Jesus speaking to the people on the mountain side.  The colors are vivid and Jesus stands out in the picture. I sing in the choir and look directly at that stain glass window which inspires me each time I worship.

Worship service is a time to be connected with our Creator in a fellowship that renews and refreshes us for what lies ahead in our lives.

We praise God with traditional and contemporary music. Everyone can take a part in worship by reading scripture, playing bells, singing in the choirs, skits, announcements, and various other means of worship.

The Lenten Season starts with Ash Wednesday on February 17th. Services are at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Imposition of Ashes and Holy Communion will be offered at this service.

Come and join us!  All are welcome!

Unmet Needs

How does Salem participate in the Quincy community?

Salem is a member of Adams County Unmet Needs, an organization made up of several social organizations and many churches that help meet the needs of people in our community. It was started in 1993 during the big flood. They found it was so helpful to have all these organizations meet and work together. They help with everything from medicine and counseling, to repairing cars and minor things on homes. One of their main priorities is the children in the community. The churches give suggestions and supply money and needed things.

The Salem people are very generous in helping out with the needs of others.

Giving to God’s Work

Acts 20:35
“In all this I have given you an example that by such work we must support the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, for he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'”

Your giving to the Benevolence category on the offering envelopes goes to support community agencies reaching out to help God’s people.  This year’s benevolence offerings have been given to:

Our Church’s Wider Mission – UCC
Eden Seminary
Quincy Area Partnership for Unmet Needs
Walk to Emmaus
Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) of Adams County
Quanada
Salem UCC Pastor’s Discretionary Fund
Chaddock
Madonna House

We encourage you to give generously to the work of God being done in these wonderful organizations.
